For my stag weekend, I didn’t want to take part in any clichéd activities. Me and my mates aren’t the type of lads to go abroad for a messy weekend, waking up naked tied to a lamp post. We still wanted to take part in plenty of exciting activities, but something that was more suited to what we wanted from our stag. We wanted an unforgettable weekend before I left for marriage; we had a classic night out planned, but we wanted something classy during the day.

Going hot air ballooning is far from the first thing that comes to mind when you’re planning a stag weekend, but when my best man suggested it to me and the lads, we decided to give it a go. We wanted something that would make the stag memorable and stand out from all the other stag weekends we’d been on before. We’ve grown tired of going paintballing, or drinking abroad; my wedding is a once in a lifetime experience, so I want my stag to be the same.

When my fiancée found out, she was disappointed that I was going ballooning with the lads and not her- although after the time I had up in the air, I’m definitely eager to return. On the day of the stag, we made our way to the Scenes Above location; on our way there, we drove through countless miles of countryside, far away from the city where we’d be spending a night out afterwards. We were all dressed up and ready to go out as soon as we came back down to earth- but seeing the countryside from hundreds of metres heigh was the perfect way for us to start the evening.

When we were in the balloon, we had champagne at the ready to toast my marriage and more importantly, toast the evening ahead. I don’t know why we thought ballooning was a strange choice of an activity- as you make the ascent, it really gets your adrenaline pumping! The views from the top were absolutely stunning and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick of the stag. I can’t wait to get up there again, as there is no thrill quite like it!
